i notice that meditation was mentioned a few times in this article. let's not forget the chants and mantras as poetry. i love running and synchronizing my breathing to mantras as a way of calming my mind and smoothing my body. in this way, poetry also has the power to heal the body. imagine many miles of "mountain~solid, flower~fresh, water`reflecting". after a while everything becomes significant. poetry can get your mind thinking and seeing from the artists POV and it can also calm your mind. i also agree that poetry evolved into music and i also sing with my mind's voice the mantras of deva premal while i run. favorite is "om shanti, satchidananda" or "aum peace, truth, consciousness, bliss". i hear this in the artists voice.
point is that the value of musical poetry is it's portability and conveyance of the artistic expression, even to the point of increasing it's healing power.
Very good point! I think music definitely adds to the healing power of words. Also, remember Oliver Sachs work showing music and movement stimulate some of the same parts of the brain? Your walking meditations probably share some similarities to putting meditations to music...
I put forth that if poets became songwriters like dinosaurs became birds, then Bob Dylan is an archaeopteryx.
